What is douglass homes?

Douglass Homes is a public housing community located in Baltimore, Maryland. It was named after the famous abolitionist and orator Frederick Douglass. The housing complex was built in 1954 as part of a nationwide effort to provide affordable housing to low-income residents. It comprises around 750 units spread across around 14 buildings, varying in size from one- to four-bedroom apartments.

In recent years, there have been several initiatives to revitalize the Douglass Homes community, including the introduction of new community centers, playgrounds, and enhanced security measures. There have also been efforts to foster economic development in the area, including the development of a new grocery store and job-training programs.

However, the community still faces ongoing challenges, including poverty, crime, and inadequate resources. In 2019, a resident-led community organization, Douglass Homes Community Association, was formed to advocate for residents' needs and improve their living conditions.
